Smooth that Skin
Summer bodies are made in Winter. And I don't want to freak you out, but it's kinda Winter now.
So pull on those leg warmers, get moving and above all, get sloughing!
"Sloughing?" you say and wince? Such delightful imagery I know, but because our skin renews itself every 28 days, we need to ensure we're creating the most silky soft versions of ourselves.
Here's some fabulous techniques to 'slough' off those dying cells.
Body Brushing: Using a body brush or loofah, use medium-firm strokes starting from your outer extremities, towards the heart (this is obviously an amazing circulation booster too, but be gentle around your décolletage). Do this before jumping in the shower and allowing the skin to wash away.
Exfoliation Mits: These are a personal favourite of mine because you get to use both hands! Once again moving towards the heart, it's also great to prevent ingrown hairs caused by waxing, and removing last week's spray tan.
DIY Scrubs: Avoid the chemicals and make your own! Experiment with varied, easily-sourced ingredients like coffee granules, sugar, and oatmeal mixed with coconut oil, honey, essential oils, and those gorgeous Indian spices you keep forgetting to make your curry with, like cinnamon sticks and star anise. Mix, lovingly apply, gently wash off and pat dry. Feel free to glide down the street and share your gorgeous scent with lucky passers-by.
Moisturise, moisturise, moisturise: prevention is the cure so protect your skin and keep it soft-to-touch with regular moisturising. I love to mix almond and coconut oil, as it's not too heavy, and when you're finished you can gently massage the ends of your hair and avoid those dreaded split-ends!
Looking after your skin is is just one step in helping create your year-round best version of yourself, but even every small thing you do as an act of self-care will leave you feeling more beautiful, confident and invigorated.
